So... like in November of 2004 I got into an art trade with =prismchan. She drew me my half and then I... did nothing.
Oh, not that I didn't try. I did. But I HATED every single piece I did, and with the growing guilt associated with not having completed anything for her yet came a growing desire to do something great, but never quite liked what came out.
Around two weeks ago I said enough of this crap, IT HAS TO GET DONE. So I asked her if there was anyone else she would rather me draw, and she gave me a list of characters to choose from, and this one, Papillon the Victorian-era magician, stood out. And of course, since it took me far too long to do a complete drawing, I figured I oughta make it up to her by doing something a little extra. I actually think this is one of my better works to date. So if you want a drawing of this quality for free... do an art trade with me and hope I don't live up to it quickly enough
Sadly it's larger than my scanner can hold, even after cropping off the edges (which may not have been the smartest choice, since i lost some pretty details of the butterflies I enjoyed drawing so much), so I had to scan it in pieces, put it together, and then try to do some damage control in terms of my scanner chewing through the purples :[
Overall, this picture has some mistakes, but I'm happy with it. I had some liberty in terms of her design, partially due to limited/mixed references. Her dress isn't 100% as it should be, but that's mostly because I couldn't figure out what was going on with it in the first place, and figured it's better that I get it done than worry over something like that.
Various references used for some of the butterflies, though the woman was drawn without any refs at all. Done with Prismacolor markers, Prismacolor pencils, a white paint Sharpie and a gold paint Sharpie. Inked with Micron pens of varying colors and thickness. Details can be found here - [link]
I hope this is the right category. o_o Please don't use this image unless you are =prismchan.
Awesome picture! Love the corset and the overall festiv feel to this piece. Nice and colorful with a lot of sophisticated playfulness....I barely know what I just said. XD
